International students who are studying in Australia may apply for permission to work simultaneously with their study. Application for the work visa is a fairly straight forward process. Once a work visa is grantedstudents are allowed to work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week during semester, and full time between semesters (during holidays).

Health Insurance for foreign students in Australia

All the international students studying in Australia are required to have suitable health insurance for safety and security. Australia has a special system of health care cover for international students. This is called Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and you are required to have this for the duration of your student visa in Australia.

Student Visa for Australia

All visitors to Australia are required to have a valid visa. Students planning to study for more than three months are required to have a Student Visa.

Eligibility:-

Bachelor Degree: Most Australian business schools accept the three-year graduation system for entry into the MBA programme. For most good Universities, a good first degree from a leading university in India or its equivalent is essential.

There are some universities that accept students for the MBA without a bachelor degree if they have considerable work experience and significant professional achievements.

Work Experience: Most Australian business schools (AMBA Accredited) require a minimum of two to three years of work experience.

There are around five to six Australian business schools that accept students who have no experience for direct entry into the MBA programme.

GMAT:GMAT is accepted and recommended by many universities. However, many Australian universities are flexible about it.

TOEFL/IELTS: You need to take either the TOEFL or IELTS for admission to an MBA program in Australia. This is required by almost all universities. This mandatory for most business schools even if you have studied in English medium throughout.

Once you have chosen your course and university, you can get your application forms in any one of the following ways:

1. Via email: One can request application forms from the universities website. Most universities have a form on their website, which can be completed and submitted online to request application material.
   
2. Downloading from the university website: Many universities have provides Download Application Forms option on their respective websites. Print outs of the forms can be taken and used as regular application forms.
   
3. Getting applications from University Representatives: One can also get the application forms from many authorized representatives of Australian Universities across the country.
   
4. You can also get in touch with the Australian Embassy and ask them to send you information about the university you wish to pursue education from.

Documents required for application

For Undergraduate courses students will be required to submit their academic transcripts, a statement of purpose, letters of recommendation and a proof of their proficiency in English Language. The TOEFL or IELTS score is a testimony of a student’s proficiency in the language.

The statement of purpose should include a student’s reasons for choosing a particular course and institute and his present and future goals.

A recommendation letter is a signed statement from a person who knows the applicant well professionally or has taught him in a subject that is related to the course he is applying to. Ideally, it should list his positive and negative qualities, strengths and other such information. 

For post graduate courses students will be required to submit their academic transcripts, a statement of purpose, letters of recommendation and a proof of their proficiency in English Language, as in a TOEFL / IELTS tests. In addition, certain postgraduate courses like MBA may require GMAT score of the applicant. 

Work experience of the applicant is also a pre-requisite for certain courses like the MBA or other vocational courses. Students applying for a post graduate research program are required to submit their detailed research proposal.

On successful application, students are issued an Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE). A student must have an eCoE to apply for his student visa. In some instances, a student will be requested to undergo a pre-visa assessment before eCoE is issued.

Undergraduate study

Undergraduate study in Australia has duration of three years. Upon completion of undergraduate study, students are awarded a Bachelor’s Degree, which prepares students for professional careers as well as for further postgraduate study.

Bachelor Degree (Honours) may be completed as an optional, additional year of study following the three-year degree; or, it may be awarded for academic achievement in degrees of four or more years.

Australian universities also offer Undergraduate diplomas and Associate Diplomas. 

For admission to undergraduate study, students needs to complete an Australian Secondary School Certificate of Education (Year 12), the overseas equivalent, or a diploma or advanced diploma from the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. 

Some undergraduate courses specify 'pre-requisite subjects', which implies that students must have passed that particular subject as part of their entry qualification. Pre-requisite subjects vary from course to course.

For example, a Bachelor of Arts degree might have no pre-requisite; a Bachelor of Science might require general Mathematics. Many courses like fashion designing or Fine arts may require thestudents to submit their portfolios.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Quite a few courses are offered in Australia through the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. These are of a wide range and are recognized almost everywhere. The VET sector is divided into two sections: a nationally recognized government system of Technical and Further Education (TAFE) and private providers.
